Whoever came up with the idea of enlisting comedian and "House" star Hugh Laurie as an ambassador for L'Oreal Paris was a genius. Over the holiday weekend, the beauty brand released an online-only behind-the-scenes video that serves as Laurie's introduction as a spokesmodel. As he sits back in his chair while getting a manicure, Laurie jokes "My name is Gerard Butler, and this is how I look before I've applied L'Oreal skincare for men":
The video is making some female YouTube viewers go crazy over Hugh's real accent (among other things), provoking a pileup of comments about how "hot," "gorgeous" Hugh is, with multiple uses of the term "sexiest man alive." (My personal favorite comment, laughing-out-loud-wise, isn't technically profane, but is kind of gross. It involves, uh, childbirth.)

The Independent quotes Laurie describing his new gig thusly: "At first I thought it was a mistake but then I realised that L'Oreal wasn't looking for models, but real people with strong personalities, who are worth it ... and who aren't afraid to proclaim that using cosmetics can be a very masculine decision after all."
There's no possible way Hugh Laurie said the "who are worth it" part with a straight face, which is why I can't wait until the actual TV commercials come out. Other L'Oreal Paris male ambassadors include such traditional hunks as the aforementioned Gerard Butler, and Patrick Dempsey. But Laurie is clearly the most inspired choice.
